Nona

Nona's love for adventure and travel began at the age of five when her family sailed into New York harbor on a ship coming from South Hampton, England. Graduating from Rollins College in Central Florida with a degree in Foreign Languages/Political Science, Nona was well on her way to starting her own travel business.

To become fluent in Spanish, Nona entered an exchange student program during college, living in Colombia, South America. There she further discovered her enthusiasm for foreign cultures and traditions. That still holds true today. Over the last 30 years Nona has traveled to every continent and taken groups along with her. Tours by Nona is a family owned and operated company that encompasses her years of experience in the industry as well as her passion for sharing the opportunity for others to see the world.

Among other claims to fame, Florida holds the title of the state with the most springs. Come along with Tours by Nona to visit one of our most notable ones. Once called Acuera,or “Healing Waters,” by the Mayaca Indians who inhabited the area, DeLeon Springs is a place to cool off in clear waters, roam trails through a lush subtropical forest, and immerse oneself in a rich history. The spring run was once used to turn a sugar cane mill followed by a grist mill to turn corn into flour during the Civil War. The famous naturalist, John James Audubon, visited the springs in 1831, and recorded “This spring presents a circular basin, having a diameter of about 60 feet from the center of which the water is thrown up with great force, although it does not rise to a height of more than a few inches above the general level.” That description still rings true today. Our outing will include a scenic boat ride and pancake breakfast at the historic Sugar Mill Restaurant.
